Several months ago, Dad’s mattress was swapped with a pressure care air mattress. A pressure care air mattress is a mattress that provides more comfort and support to people who are bedridden. The mattress has a system of pressure sensors and individual air chambers that are alternately inflated and deflated. This consistently and evenly distributes pressure so that no point of the body remains in contact for long. While still not ideal, complaints about his bed have reduced by roughly 80%.
At Hendra, Dad used a number of automatic night lights. A year or so ago, I put a couple of these night lights beside his bed. This helps Dad find the call buzzer and regain orientation after nighttime hallucinations.
Most other issues relating to his bed have to do with personal preferences, which he sometimes struggles to communicate or are sometimes overlooked by new/overworked staff.
